Group Accountant
Role Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and technically strong experienced Group Accountant to support the finance function of a growing international distribution group with multiple European subsidiaries.
Reporting to the Group FD, the role will be responsible for the accounting for the business’s individual European company accounts, and the preparation of the consolidated Group monthly management accounts.
The role also involves multi-entity European VAT compliance, extensive inter-company accounting, cross group inventory accounting, year-end group audit, all alongside core accounting and reporting requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Preparing Group monthly consolidated management accounts in excel.
Preparing individual European company accounts
Preparing summarised reporting for various stakeholders, from Board level to external lenders
Management of Xero accounting ledger for various entities. Includes preparing, posting and completing key accounting entries across companies
Significant exposure the Groups tax reporting, from European VAT returns and Intrastat reports, through to corporation/income tax filings for the individual entities
Close liaison with the Group’s external accounting partners, particularly in France and Spain, managing reconciliations between local records and Xero accounts
Ensuring balance sheet integrity through clear monthly reconciliations for all companies.
Inventory accounting and valuation, including reconciliation of inventory across systems
Acting as the primary contact for the Group’s external statutory audit, liaising extensively with auditors supporting the timely completion of the groups audit and statutory financial accounts
Raise intercompany transactions and reconcile intercompany balances
Manage critical weekly group cashflow reporting
Preparation of annual financial budget for all entities, and consolidating into Group financial budget pack, then split monthly. Covering P&Ls, balance sheets and cashflow projections
Monthly updates to the current year forecasts across all entities and consolidated
Support system improvements and financial process controls.
Key Skills & Experience
Fully qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA or equivalent).
Multi-entity experience in distribution, stockholding, or product-based businesses.
Familiarity with European VAT principles and requirements in both UK and Europe, as needed for a business holding stock in multiple entities across multiple stock locations in Europe.
Strong on balance sheet controls and reconciliation experience.
Good technical knowledge of UK GAAP and IFRS.
Experience of working with external auditors
High level Excel skills to manage complex consolidation files
Cashflow management experience, understanding of drivers or working capital and its cashflow impacts in regular cashflow reporting
An ability and determined attitude for resolving difficult reconciliation matters
A positive attitude and willingness to learn
